Dr.Brega Howley

Dr.Brega Howley is a Galway native and qualified from Trinity College Dublin with an honours degree in 2001. During her time in Trinity, she was awarded with the prestigious Trinity Scholarship. Following graduation, she worked a year as a house officer in the Dublin Dental Hospital. Dr.Howley attained her membership examinations from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2003, while working treating children in the public dental service. From 2003-2007 Dr.Howley worked in a practice limited to children’s dentistry and in a general dental practice. Paediatric Specialty Training: From 2007-2010, Dr.Howley completed her specialty training with a 3-year (full-time) Master’s programme in Paediatric Dentistry in Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas TX, where she also trained at Children’s Hospital  and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. Her master’s research has won 3 international awards.

Dr.Howley completed her board certification examinations in 2010 to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry. She was presented with the Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award in Chicago in 2010 for qualifying in the top 3% of the USA in the written portion of this examination. Dr.Howley has presented at national and international conferences and works as a peer reviewer for the journal of the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, serving as an expert reviewer for pulp therapy research in the journal Paediatric Dentistry. She has recently been appointed to the editorial board of the journal Paediatric Dentistry. Dr.Howley attends continual professional development courses nationally and internationally to stay up to date with all developments and technologies in paediatric dentistry. Dr.Howley worked as an Assistant Professor in the Paediatric Dentistry Department at Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas, Texas, before returning home to set up a practice limited to paediatric dentistry in Galway.

Paul P Taylor Award

Awarded in 2013. This award is given to the lead author of the most prestigious journal article in Paediatric Dentistry from the previous year. “Paediatric Dentistry is the official publication of the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry and the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry. It is published bi-monthly and is internationally recognized as the leading journal in the area of paediatric dentistry.”

NuSmile Graduate Student Research Award (GSRA)

Awarded by the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, 64th Annual Session, New York in May 2011. First prize at the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry’s annual session Research Poster Competition, New York – May 2011

Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award

Awarded in 2010. This award is presented to those who rank in the top 3% of all candidates completing the written examination for board certification of the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry.The examination is Part I of the two-part certification process for Diplomate status in the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry.

5-Year Trinity Scholarship

Awarded in 1998. This is a prestigious scholarship entitling successful candidates to 5 years of free college fees and free accommodation in Trinity College. These examinations are in addition to annual examinations and require an overall 1st Class Honours mark.

Entrance Exhibitioner Award

Awarded in 1996 by Trinity College Dublin.

Patrick Walsh

Practice Manager

Patrick grew up in Claremorris, Co.Mayo. He is a Food Scientist by profession. Patrick is Dr.Howley’s practice manager and business partner. They are a husband and wife team and together they set up Dentistry For Kids in 2013.

Patrick ensures patients and their parents receive an exceptional experience each time they visit. When he is not at work he is an avid follower of all things football – particularly Mayo GAA.

Marion Griffin

Dental Nurse

Marion grew up in Connemara and is a native Irish speaker. Before starting a career in dental nursing in 2013, she worked in childcare. Marion qualified with distinction in both her dental nursing and childcare qualifications. We are so lucky that she chose to work with us at Dentistry for Kids.

She loves working in a fun environment where she can help children feel comfortable and relaxed during their visits. Outside of work, Marion loves to keep fit and supports Liverpool FC. As Patrick is a Man United supporter, there is plenty of rivalry on big match days!

Marion joined us in 2020 and we are delighted to have her as part of our team. She looks forward to meeting you at Dentistry for Kids.

 

 

Rebecca Connor

Practice Receptionist

Rebecca is our receptionist.  She joined our practice in 2020. Rebecca grew up in Galway and we are delighted that she chose to join our team. Rebecca is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and has a great way of helping children feel at ease from the moment they walk in the door.

Outside of work, Rebecca loves socialising, fashion, shopping and interior design. She looks forward to welcoming you and your child to Dentistry for Kids.
